Why there is no single “best month”
Vietnam stretches a long way from north to south, so Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City do not share one weather pattern. Official Vietnam Tourism guidance describes northern Vietnam as cooler from December to March, central Vietnam as generally sunnier for much of the year but wetter around November and December, and southern Vietnam as warm year-round with a distinct rainy period.
If you are combining Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay
Spring is a very comfortable choice for many first-time visitors. Hanoi and Ninh Binh are easier to explore before the hottest part of the year, while Ha Long Bay usually has a better chance of clearer conditions in April to June and again from September to November. Winter can be atmospheric, but mist can soften the bay views.
If you are adding Da Nang and Hoi An
Central Vietnam often works particularly well from roughly March into early summer. That makes March to May a useful compromise if you want to combine Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and Hoi An on one trip.
What about the rainy season?
Rainy season does not automatically mean a ruined holiday. Tropical rain is often concentrated into periods rather than lasting all day. The more important point is to allow some flexibility for cruises, outdoor viewpoints and coastal activities when storms are possible.

Choose the route first, then choose the month. If your dates are fixed, we would rather adjust the itinerary to the season than force the same route year-round.
What to do after you land
Arrive with the basics already decided: connection, a small amount of Vietnamese dong, and the exact airport transfer you will use.
SIM / eSIM
Buy a prepaid SIM on arrival at major airports from Viettel, Vinaphone or Mobifone; passport registration is required. If you prefer an eSIM, install it before departure and keep the activation instructions offline.
Money & cards
ATMs that accept international cards are available outside the arrival gates at major airports. Currency-exchange counters are also available before the exit gates. For larger exchanges later, use banks, hotels or established counters in major tourist areas.
Airport taxi / transfer
At Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Da Nang (DAD), use the official taxi queue, your arranged transfer, or the designated ride-hailing pickup for your app. Ignore unsolicited offers inside the terminal and keep your hotel address saved in Vietnamese.
Your first 15 minutes
Connect your phone, withdraw or exchange enough VND for the first day, confirm the correct pickup point in Grab or with your driver, then message your hotel once you are in the car.
